Join us in celebrating with a convention center hall filled with teams of student inventors bringing unique and innovative devices.
At the heart of this inspiring and exciting event is an army of volunteers. Groups from local companies and organizations volunteer to
support our next generation of innovators. Get your group involved in supporting Bay Area youth participating in Tech Challenge 2008.
We have over 200 volunteer shifts to fill!
Tech Challenge will:
- Support your group through every step of the way,
- Provide all necessary training as appropriate to each volunteer's position,
- Provide recruiting information and materials, and
- Recognize your group's volunteer support in our event program
Your group will:
- Appoint a primary contact to work with the Tech Challenge staff,
- Recruit volunteers for the event day May 3, 2008, and
- Participate in a rewarding and inspiring event where you get to see our future innovators in action.

We are looking for the following volunteer positions:
Judges: Time Requirement: 2-3 days
(Commitment: Saturday May 3, 2008, plus at least one additional weekend day for training
(Saturday, April 5, 19 or 26, 2008 or Sunday, April 13). Both morning and afternoon shifts on May 3 are available.
The April trial dates are good chances to become familiar with the test rig and to see it operate prior to event day.
Teams of judges will evaluate teams' entries in the Tech Challenge and recommend awards to the head judges who will make the
final decisions. Engineering experience NOT required.

Observe teams as they operate their device for three minutes.
- Review the team's design documentation, examine the device, and talk to team members in order to understand their design process
from brainstorming through to testing and final preparations for the event.
Special Requirement: Adult volunteers only.
Spanish-speakers needed for at least 10-12 positions.
The following volunteer positions require a commitment of 4-6 hours on May 3, 2008
(Commitment: sign up for one or both shifts.
Times are approximate and will be finalized in April.
Morning: about 4 hours, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Afternoon: about 6 hours, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Team Check-In
Be the first to greet our teams on the event day. Help us track who shows up and help the teams head off in the right direction.
Spanish-speakers needed for at least 4 positions
Judging Area Host
You won't get any closer to the action than this. Help our judges run a smooth competition by managing the teams waiting their turnto
operate their device.
Spanish-speakers needed for at least 2 positions
Tally Room Assistant
Help the Award Ceremony Lead sort through the stacks of scorecards, enter results in the computer, and prepare the results to be
announced at the award ceremony.
Special Requirement: comfort with basic computer data entry in programs like Excel.
Event Photography
You won't qualify for a Pulitzer, but you will help us create a visual record of the triumphs and failures, excitement and nerves of the
challenge event.
Special Requirement: bring your own digital camera and provide Tech Challenge with copies of all your photos.
Runners
For those of you looking to put miles on your pedometer: collect scorecards from throughout the hall and return them to the head judge.
Help us prepare for the awards ceremony, including sorting and handing out prizes.
Special Requirement: shift times extended to cover the awards ceremonies. Morning shift about 8:00 am - 1:30 pm; afternoon shift
about 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Jack or Jill of All Trades
The position for the indecisive. Willing to do whatever.
Hospitality Room
Want something a little quieter than a convention hall full of a thousand people? We will have a break room for the volunteers away
from all the hubbub. We need people to welcome the volunteers, make sure there's enough food, napkins, cups etc.
Break Down Team
(Commitment: approximately 2 hours after completion of the competition.
For those of you looking to earn our unending adoration: Stay after the completion of the event and help us clean up and move out of
Parkside Hall.
Special Requirement: unique shift time, about 4:30 - 7:30 pm;
