Challenge Trials
General QuestionsQ: How important are the Challenge Trials? A: Consider that it's better to fail at a trial than at the Event. The dynamics of the real test rig will be different from what you are probably testing on at home. There will also be judges there to answer any questions you may have. The Challenge Trials are a great way to test, troubleshoot and refine your solution! There will be several Challenge Trial events scheduled during the Tech Challenge season, so take full advantage! The free temporary museum membership that each member of a Challenge team receives means you can get into The Tech Museum for free every time you come for a Challenge Trial. Q: How do you get the most out of a Challenge Trial? A: Go to as many trials as you can, even if you don't have a device ready to test. Use the time to get ideas and inspiration from other teams. Bring a labeled tool kit so you can tinker on your device while you're there. Have a post mortem after each trial. Ask what worked, what didn't? Remember to document your post mortem in your design journal. Q: How do the Challenge Trials work? A: Just show up at any one of the scheduled Challenge Trial events. Sign up for one or more chances to test your device on the Test Rig, and then stay to tinker in the corner and test refinements to your design again. Time on the test rig is on a first come, first served basis. On busy days preference will be given to teams who have not had time on the rig yet. The Tech Challenge staff will be available to answer questions. |
