Getting to The Tech is easy. The museum is located in downtown San Jose, California at the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street, near Interstate 280 and Highway 87. Our mango and azure building is hard to miss!

This year's Tech Challenge is being held at Parkside Hall, a large indoor space adjacent to The Tech Museum and accessible from Park Avenue.

Driving

  • Highway 101 (from the south)

    Take 101 N to 280 N towards downtown San Jose. Continue 4 miles to Guadalupe Parkway (Highway 87) and exit going north. Go 1/4 mile to the Santa Clara Street exit. Turn right on Santa Clara. Go 5 lights, turn right on Market Street. Go down 2 blocks; the museum is on the right, at the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street.

  • Highway 101 (from the north)

    Take 101 S; exit Guadalupe Parkway (Highway 87). Continue 2-1/2 miles through city streets, then onto the parkway. Exit Park Avenue/San Carlos Street. Turn left on Park. The Tech is on the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street.

  • Highway 280/680 (both directions)

    From 280/680 take Guadalupe Parkway (Highway 87) going north. Go 1/4 mile to the Santa Clara Street exit. Turn right on Santa Clara. Go 5 lights to Market Street and turn right. Go 2 blocks; the museum is on the right, at the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street.

  • Highway 880

    Take the Coleman Avenue exit and turn left. Drive 3 miles, where it will turn into Market Street. Once you cross Santa Clara Street, The Tech will be two blocks down on the right, at the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street.

  • Highway 17

    Take 280 S to Guadalupe Parkway (Highway 87) going north. Exit Santa Clara Street and turn right. Go 5 lights to Market Street and turn right. Go 2 blocks; the museum is on the right, at the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street.

  • From the San Jose Airport

    Follow signs to Highway 87 South/Guadalupe. It will be a right out of Airport Complex. Continue on 87 South. Exit Park Avenue/San Carlos Street. Turn left on Park. The Tech is on the corner of Park Avenue and Market Street.

Parking

Discounted, validated parking is available at the Second and San Carlos Streets Garage, adjacent to Camera Cinema. Enter the garage from Second or Third Street. With validation, parking will be $3 or less; bring your parking ticket to The Tech for validation.

Parking at this garage is free on weekends and city holidays, and if you enter the lot after 6 pm on weekdays. Please note that this is the only lot that accepts Tech validation on weekdays. It accommodates vehicles under 6'6" in height. Other non-validated parking is available downtown.

Cab drop off in the loading zone on Market Street. For parking, from Park Avenue, turn right on Market Street. Proceed to San Carlos Street, turn left. Turn left on Third Street. Make immediate left into Public Parking Lot on Third and San Carlos. We offer discounted, validated parking here.

VTA Light Rail

To visit The Tech, disembark at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center stop and walk north 1 block on Market Street to Park Avenue.

Light rail service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Purchase tickets from machines located at the light rail stations. VTA Day Passes are also valid on light rail. For more information visit the VTA website or call (408) 321-2300.

Caltrain & Amtrak

To visit The Tech, disembark at the San Jose Diridon Station, walk East on San Fernando Street (approx. 5 blocks), turn right on Market Street and walk 1 block. The Tech is on the right corner.

On weekdays, there is free morning and afternoon shuttle service between the station and downtown. For schedule information, see the San Jose Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH) website.

The Caltrain ride from San Francisco takes approx. one hour and 25 minutes. Purchase tickets at the station. Exact change is not required. Cash only; no credit cards accepted. For fare and scheduling information, visit the Caltrain web site or call (408) 291-5651, or toll-free at (800) 660-4287.

BART

From Fremont BART station, take the VTA Express Bus #180, disembark in downtown San Jose at Almaden Avenue and San Fernando Street. Then walk east 1 block, turn right on Market Street and walk 1 block to Park Avenue.
